WILLARD EDWARD'S DAY - MARCH 8, 2010


PROCLAMATION

 

WHEREAS, Willard Elmer Edwards, fondly known to everyone simply as “Willard” has been cutting hair in the City of Falls Church for 61 years at Willard’s Family Hair Center; and

 

WHEREAS, “Willard’s” was located at the West End Shopping Center for many years and since 1996 has been located in the office space of Don Beyer Volvo; and

 

WHEREAS, customers estimate that Willard has given at least 180,000 haircuts over the years; and

 

WHEREAS, Willard is considered to be the master of the straight razor; and

 

WHEREAS, Willard has made house calls to homebound customers and always has kind words for everyone; and

 

WHEREAS, Willard has served the community of Falls Church as a member of the Falls Church Lions Club for 10 years and continues to support its annual fruit sale and the Remote Area Medicine (RAM) project in Southwest Virginia, collecting clothes and other items as well as preparing eyeglasses for those in need; and

 

WHEREAS, at the age of 80, Willard has decided to retire and can now spend more time with his wife, two daughters, and three grandchildren.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROBIN S. GARDNER, Mayor of the City of Falls Church, Virginia, do hereby proclaim March 8, 2010 as

 

WILLARD ELMER EDWARDS DAY

 

in the City of Falls Church and urge citizens to offer their congratulations to Mr. Edwards for a job well done for 61 years.

PARIS RAFFLE

 

At La Cote D'Or, on December 24th, the restaurant owner/manager, Santa Lion Ramon wirh his daughter (left) holds the raffle ticket bowl for King Lion Sue (center) to draw the winner of the Paris Raffle, for two tickets to fly to Paris in Spring of 2010.

 

 

LIONS CLUB OF FALLS CHURCH

PARTICIPATES IN THE HEALTH FAIR AT THE

SHINING STAR COMMUNITY CHURCH

 

 

          On November 11, 2009, a District 24-A Screening Van, manned by eleven Club members, participated in the Health Fair of the Korean community held at the Shining Star Community Church, Falls Church.  We conducted free sight, hearing, and glaucoma tests.

 

A record number of 87 individuals were screened, with the following results:
